Bioinformatics Lecture Delivered at NC State University

One of our Bioinformatics Scientists, Dr. Elizabeth Scholl, was invited to give a guest lecture for the Bioinformatics Consulting Class (ST810) at NC State University. Eizabeth holds a Ph.D. in Biomathematics and Bioinformatics and worked at NC State as the Lead Bioinformatician and Staff Manager for their Bioinformatics Consulting and Service Core. The skills and connections she gained in that position have translated directly into the work she does at Sciome, participating in a range of fields including bioinformatics, statistical genetics and project management.

She is invited to talk to the consulting class every year about what a career in consulting is like, how it contrasts with academia or industry, and what sort of personality is well suited for consulting. She engages the students in conversation to address any curiosity they may have about managing multiple projects simultaneously and interacting with a variety of clients. Her goal is to help them decide what sort of career path may be best suited for them after graduation and what skills they may need to develop for a career in consulting.
